I have been on Opana and Oxycodone for a long while now due to extreme back pain. I said screw it, I'd rather deal with crippling pain than what I am going through with these pain meds. What is suboxone treatment? Will it really take away withdrawal? They said the treatment takes months... Can I make it take less time? I don't want to rely on yet ANOTHER medicine......PLEASE HELP AND ANSWER WHATEVER YOU KNOW, I'm very very nervous!!! |

Your physical withdrawals should not last any longer than a few days, after that you may feel psychological effects, but you will live through it. I do not have experience with opiate withdrawals, but I do have experience with benzo withdrawals and this sounds stupid, but you are lucky, this will be over quick.....I'm looking at 10 months of withdrawals. Anyway, once you are stable you do not HAVE to remain on these pills for the rest of your life, but likely they will keep you on them for a while to make sure that if you mess up and take an Oxycontin, the Suboxone will block it. Once you are over the physical addiction, talk with your doctor about a plan to get off of the Suboxone and live a drug free life. Good luck, withdrawls really are horrible, but with drugs like Suboxone it makes things so much easier than it used to be.....you will be fine! |

This drug is comprised of buprenorphine and naloxone. bupernorphine is used to decrease the severity of pain major Side effects are confusion, dysphoria, hallucinations, sedation, nausea and sweating. Side effects may not occur. Do not use alcohol antihistamines, antidepressants, and sedatives or hypnotics with these because it will increase Central nervous system depression. this drug is an opiod analgesics/ opioid agonist antagonist. The other drug Naloxone will cause alertness without significant pain. This drug is considered an antidote for other opioids. it is also an opioid antagonist. This drug will antagonize the effects of the buprenorphine. There are no major side effects some are hypertension/ hypotension, v. fibb/ v. tach, nause and vomiting. My guess with the use of the two drugs the goal of th Naloxone is to decrease the adverse reactions of the buprenorphine. Hope this helped. |

It sounds as if it is a treatment that will allow you to get rid of your present pain medications. I think the medication will ease the withdrawal. Please do not rush through the program. Follow the program the doctor recommends and give the program a try. There are people that rely on different medications for one disease or another for their entire life. If you had to depend upon a medication and could get ride of your present pain medications and have your pain relieved would that be so terrible? See a web site below to read more about the treatment. Good luck! |

Great question! Suboxone actually works MUCH better as a short term detox drug, using it for 21 days. MOST doctors do recommend taking it as a maintenance drug for months/ years, but it is still a powerful opiate and will be harder to get off than the oxy if you take sub for long. Go to the site below for more info and a short term taper plan |
