Question: How do i cope with opiate withdrawal?

Ive made a firm decision to stop abusing pain killers, namely oxycontin/ oxycodone. i typically consume around 60mg a day, give or take 20 mg. can someone give me some advice on how to lesson the symptons. a.k.a the cravings, the anxiety, the insomnia....for me its almost more of a mental issue...any help would be greatly appreciated. im more than determined to do this... starting taking solely for recreation and have kept up a use of 40- 80mg daily. for opiate abuse standards, thats not much, but the mental hold on me is fairly strong. add in insane stress at work due to a new boss, and the mental breakdown is horrible

First if you cold turkey from the opiate won't help and it will never help. You should taper of slowly as to reduce the effects it for example reduce your intake by 5 mg every 4-6 weeks and then when you are at 10 mg and then 5mg then the symptoms won't be as serve

Withdrawal is both mental and physical ur body and mind have decided that they need opiates to function properly. but the symptoms will eventually pass. talk to ur doctor and ask him this question talk to loved ones and gain their support also, try joining narcotics anonymous. there are people there going through the same things you are.

Can I assume you were put on these pain killers by a doctor because you had/ have pain? If so, you should tell your doctor that you want to cut back until you are off them. Getting off medications is different for different people, so you do need to be monitored while getting off them. If you are using these meds 'just because', then you really need to see a doctor. You could have some BAD side effects by trying to do it yourself. Seizures, black outs, change in heart rate and blood pressure, and even death! Please be careful and do this responsibly.
