Withdrawal, so I'm told, is the easy part. Staying off is harder. I'm been told that the void left behind after withdrawal is neurochemically similar to a very close relative dying. It can almost be like bereavement. Counseling is a must for a person in recovery. As for friends and family, it's good to be supportive, but be mindful of indirecting enabling.

There is an AMAZING new med. out there named Suboxone. I am a former heroine smoker as is my fiance. We tried everything-literally-that there is to quit. Suboxone was perscribed to me and literally saved our behinds! It blocks ones opiate receptors so that they can absolutely not get high no matter how much they try. All at the same time, it also makes the brain believe that opium is in the body, basically tricking it, but doesn't get them high-like methodone(the gov's. way of keeping people addicts). It has a 50 hour life in one's body and pushes the toxins out at a much quicker rate than normal. It saved our lives and just might help out with your situation as well. Check it out and get it perscribed. We took 8mg. It's orange and must be melted under the tongue. Not the most pleasant taste, but makes life a hell of a lot easier when trying to kick painlessly. Best of luck :)
