Question: Why does methadone withdrawal cause intense bone and muscle pain?

Although methadone is a treatment drug of choice for weaning a person off of a strong opioid addiction (like an addiction to heroin), methadone itself is also an opioid. Therefore, stopping methadone use will cause withdrawal symptoms similar to those of any other opioid.
