Methadone Program: Methadone Symptoms & Side Effects

Question: Can you become a substance abuse counselor if you are on a methadone program?

Well you could becuse you can say youre clean takeing mathadone becuse its precribed so if someone has the training and as been on it for a while then you could but Im agasnt long term methadone matince plus you couldent give youre complete recovery to youre clints becuse youre not there yet I would recomend geting off the metahdone and liveing life complety clean first

Wait till you are off methadon. It will give you a goal to work towards. It takes a lot of work and attending classes or taking courses on line. But you can do it. It is a very rewarding and you will love you're job. Plus, certain places pay a lot of money for your services. Mary

Come on bud, you know the answer to this.....or you wouldn't have to ask it in the first place.......to counsel someone right you have to 1. know they have the problem, 2. have a similar experience. 3. Get to know them good enough to know how to talk to them and keep them motivated 4. Have enough wisdom from being drug free (including methadone) to offer advice that works. 5. Understand that they may fall off a few times........Give it some time on the methadone and get off of it, and then work to the ADCC. You can still be very instrumential in the role of being a mentor, sponser and friend. Good luck.

"You cannot transmit what you haven't got! " big book or basic text,...can't recall which! get free of the crutch or none of your clients would ever have any regard for you. i realize that the "done " can be even harder to kick than the smack---but it can be accomplished!
