Question: Your views on methadone maintenance treatment?

I am doing a research paper on mostly state runed facilities/ clinic which specialize in methadone treatment, I was just wondering if anyone here has any personal experiences or views on this type of treatment? I am just wondering if I should take on a negative standpoint or a positive....

Methadone is more addictive and harder to kick than heroin. Clinics around here (mostly private) here seem to keep pushing higher methadone doses rather than attempting to get anyone off the stuff. A friend who is on methadone wishes she had just kicked heroin and never started methadone.
