Methadone Maintenance: Methadone Symptoms & Side Effects

Question: I have a relative who is on methadone maintenance. i would like to hear from some recovering people?

Is he truly clean and sober? He attends AA meetings, but I don't think he has told anyone there. What is the consensus of the people in long term recovery regarding this issue?

Its hard to say...there are so many indivdual components to consider for ea. person.For me drugs were more or less symtomatic of other problems in my life.When I fixed them my addiction left, but every ones diff..

I have a friend who has been very successful on the Methadone program. He has been relatively drug free, alcohol free, and most definitely Heroin free!! for over 25 years.

I will tell you from personal experience. I am a member of A.A. and been in recovery for 7 years. I was addicted to morphine and demerol. I cold turkeyed off that. Later I was given metadone for chronic pain. Well right away I started taking way too much to get high. I snitched on myself and got to experience cold turkey from methadone. I still have chronic pain but take nothing. I do not believe in methadone maintence for addiction. That is my opinion. I can only speak for myself. I sure would not tell the truth to others in A.A. if I took methadone. The problem then is the program is based on honesty. Do not think this answer comes from some white trash trailer park. I am the face you never see in the news. I am well educated, have 2 homes, affluent, and do not work unless watercolor painting is really "work "
