Drug Methadone: Methadone Symptoms & Side Effects

Question: Has anyone seen the television special on the drug methadone?

I don't really have a question.I'd like everyone to know that this drug that sometimes comes in liquid form to ease the transsition off heroin, now also is given in a pill form for pain.Well this show told of young people who were prescribed this drug died in their sleep.I just want to put this out to all b/ c Anna Nicoles son had taken this drug as medication and died in his sleep. I don.t remember which network played it out, but I think we all should be aware of the side effects of this pill form of methadone.That's it.Thanks.

Thank you for putting this statement out!!!!!!!!!! I have very bad chronic pain and my dr. ordered this stuff for me...it was a low dose...10mg. and i could tell i was having trouble breathing so i got off of it...........yes, this is a very strong drug and nothing to play around with..................i can see very well how Anna N.'s son died in his sleep from taking this med and mixing it with antidepressents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. Methadone is an opioid analgesic. It is in the same family as morphine, Oxycontin, Percocet, Vicodin, Codeine, and ... heroin. All of these drugs can cause death if the dose is high enough. How much you have to take to cause death will vary from person to person and depend on how much you have been using, as tolerance develops. These drugs cause generalized depression of the central nervous system, which means that the final result when the dose is high enough is the cessation of breathing.
