Methadone: classifications: therapeutic opioid analgesics pharmacologic: apioid agonist Indications: sever pain, suppresses withdrawal symptoms in oioid detoxification Action: binds to opiate receptors in the central nervous system; alters the perception of and response to painful stimuli while producing generalized CNS depression Side effects: confusion, sedation, dizziness, dysphoria, euphoria, floatin feeling, hallucinations, headache, unusual dreams, blurred vision, diplopia, miosis, respiratory depression, urinary retantion, hypotension Contraindication: hypersensitivity, known alcohol inolerance, pregnacy, lactation BUPRENORPHINE Classifcation: THerepeutic: same above Indication: Management of severe to moderate acute pain, treatment of opioid dependence; suppresses withdrwal symptoms in detoxification. ACTION: same as above plus::: has patial agonist properties that may result in opioid withdrawal in physically dependent patients when used as an analgesic. SIDE eFFECTS: confusion, dysphoria, hallucinations, sedation, dizziness, euphoria, floating feeling, headache, unusual dreams, hypertension, hypotension, palipitations, nausea, constipation, dry mouth Contraindiction: hypersensitivity, lactation
