Question: How long can alcohol withdrawal symptoms last?

A good friend of mine has been very concerned about some symptoms he's been experiencing over the past 2 weeks. He says he sometimes feels like the ground is virbating underneath him. When he sits or lays down, the underside of his legs internally and rapidly pulse fairly constantly. Every once in awhile, it will temporarily go away. I was doing research and found that shakiness or muscle tremors are very common for withdrawal victims, however I'm under the impression this window of time is only a few days...certainly not two weeks... Any thoughts? 0.o (He doesn't have insurance or a ton of money, otherwise he'd go get checked...which is why I'm asking here for him :- ))

Usually you stop having symtoms like that by now but he's probaly just still mentally craving. Have him go to a beginners AA meeting and offer to go with him if he doesn't want to.

I don't think your friend has truly given up drinking. He should be taken to the hospital before something really bad happens to him.

Well alcohol withdrawl is bsically what you call a hangover and in servere cases it will last no more than 3 days but its just a headache with naseau. What your friend has sounds serious and should see a doc.

The actual withrawal pangs don't last long, actually they're gone in a matter of minutes, you just can't tell. The problem is not the withdrawal pang, It is you, thinking about it. you must find something to entertain your brain instead of thinking in how painful it is or that you need a drink to survive them. The actual amount of time as an how many days, months, and years. no body can tell you that for sure, each individual is different....But some doctors say that the hardest and more difficult time are the first 3 months...I hope this helps a bit................

They usually start within 24 hours and reach there peak after 2 or 3 days. Usually they start to subside after 2 weeks or so. It can take a month of more to start feeling better depending how heavy a drinker he was. It is NOT the same as a hangover. I would make some phone calls to make sure. But it does sound like what you go through when you stop cold turkey after being a heavy drinker.
