Is different for different people and it depend how long that person had been drinking. Sometimes you feel shaky, sweating, don't feel to eat. some people vomit is worse than been sick with flu. Most people with this type of withdrawal are not able to go to work and they spend the whole day sleeping. Your head feel like is going to exploit, the person get depressed and in the bad mood. They usually promise they are not going to drink ever again but when the hangover passed, the go back to same and drink again. If a person have a very bad withdraw it need to be detoxed or be in the hospital because is very dangerous to do it by themselves. They can go into a convulsion.

Its very hard......it like a habit or addiction....you have to have it everyday or you are just not yourself you can survive or or do anything if you have not had that one drink.....and trying to stop is like trying to make a prostitute stop stripping or doing what they do......an alcoholic will neglect anyone and the family or friends have to attend to their every need

Shakes, insomnia, depression, could have DTs, sweating, upset stomach, cravings, lack of concentration, paranoia, etc. Detoxing can result in death in a long-term maintenance drinker, so sedatives are usually given. If your alky isn't too bad, she can detox at home with most of the above symptoms and survive, but it won't feel good.

Alcohol withdrawal refers to a group of symptoms that may occur from suddenly stopping the use of alcohol after chronic or prolonged ingestion. Not everyone who stops drinking experiences withdrawal symptoms, but most people who have been drinking for a long period of time, or drinking frequently, or drink heavily when they do drink, will experience some form of withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking suddenly.

Two people I know switched from drinking beer to just not giving a fart about life at all and going for straight vodka first thing in the morning. My distant Aunt's belly grew big and round, which looked strange because the rest of her was tiny, but we suspected it was her liver, especially after her skin became a strange yellowish color. For the last five years of her life I don't believe there was one single time I saw her when she was not drunk, even when I bumped into her at the grocery store. She died of hepatits last year. My grandmother was overcome by the DT's, hallucinated that someone was breaking into her second story window, had a heart attack, and after a brief stay in the hospital, sadly she died. I know these people did not quit, and you were looking for quitting information, but perhaps your character could come dangerously close to these sad endings, and people could see what alcohol can really do to a person.
