Question: Drug addiction/ family ties?

I have been a Drug addict for 7+ years. My paternal grandfather, as well as my aunt, were alcoholics. Was I "predetermined " or is it just luck of the draw (or bad karma)?

Not really predetermined..some say it is in the gene pool(DNA). But ultimately, it is your decision! You can say yes or no. I too dealt with addiction. I was arrested, put in jail, 6 month treatment center and spent 5 years on probation. That was 14 years ago and have since then not used drugs & rebuilt my life...You can too Buddy! Go for it.. Just say no!

My father was an alcoholic (violent one) and that made me all the more determined not to turn out like him......i am not an alcoholic. You have a choice.

Drug addiction is not hereditary. But it is true that children that have either one or both that suffer from alcoholism are much more likely to suffer from the addiction, than those who don’t. Also your present situation is neither luck of the draw or bad karma. You can make the change when you decide you are ready to give up your addiction. It is up to you.
