How does someone fight an addiction?

Question: How does someone fight an addiction?

What are some ways that helped you? There are two specific ones that I am interested about: 1.smoking (my problem) 2.pornography (my boyfriend's) we are both trying to better our lives together and helping each other fight these addictions. Some people say that it is not healthy to be in a relationship when there are personal problems to deal with first. but we figure that we can make each other stronger by fighting the habits together. Its been a year and im still smoking (actually we smoke together like a bond that has to be broken) and he still watches porn secretly or else he thinks he does...

The primary use of addictive behavior is to manage feelings. ALWAYS. The key to reduce your addictions is to manage your feelings in more appropriate ways. What do you do when you're stressed? Have a smoke, right? What does your boyfriend do when he's bored? Masturbate, right? How can you manage your feelings of stress and boredom in a healthy way?

For the smoking i know there's a type of medicine you can take to help quit, but i'm not sure what its called. You two could try snapping rubber bands on your wrist when you get the urge to smoke and when he gets the urge to watch porn, it would kind of be like shock therapy

The easiest way to stop an addiction is to find another. for herion addicts they send em to methadone clinics. my stepdad stopped smoking and replaced it with icecream. but he got really fat so be careful what you replace it with >. > as for the porn it doesnt sound like youve confronted him about it. if he's looking at it multiple times a day while having a girlfriend hes an addict. if its every few days or once a week probably nothing to worry about it.
