With all this talk recently about 'sexual addiction' I was wondering in what ways addiction constitutes being a disease? I know that drug addiction is a serious chemical dependency and the withdrawal from long- term use is pretty awful. I can wrap my head around that much, although I think the term "disease " may strip the user of responsibility in the end, which I don't agree with. But in what ways do things like sex addiction, gambling addiction, the sort of compulsions that are not triggered by chemical usage constitute the classification of "disease ". I am confused by this aspect of addiction. I read that "sexual addiction " has not been recognized by the American psychological community, or any other global medical groups for that matter. So one has to wonder, is America just addicted to addictions? With all this talk recently about 'sexual addiction' I was wondering in what ways addiction constitutes being a disease?
